In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a glimpse into the plot but keeping fans curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys
The preview reveals Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he grew up — getting a brand new toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer avoids is why the sheriff is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a fair and helping prize toys find good homes.
Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with him. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The final act Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the insignia attached to her shirt.
Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the toys.
