Lando Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has outperformed his teammate at all of the past five grands prix.
Lando Norris edged out fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the closing stages of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the title advantage from Piastri by a single point after his victory in Mexico City a fortnight back, beat the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver for most of the session before the sprint shootout due at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the championship fight, sitting 36 points behind behind Norris, finished in 17th place as his Red Bull team opted for a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to go off, albeit lightly, when he rotated at corner four during the early running.
Tsunoda lost control over the exit kerbs before spinning across the gravel trap, and was lucky to avoid just a slight brush of the barrier.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the conclusion of the practice, spinning around through the fast downhill Mergulho turn before the last turn on to the main straight.
The seven-time champion wrapped up in 19th, trailing team-mate the Monegasque driver.
Norris and Piastri were significantly quicker of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's car third fastest, 0.619 seconds behind the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
